Harvest has begun. This year is going to be even more „handmade“

It is difficult to grow wine. First, the winemakers are afraid of freezing, then having enough water, and then not too much. And what about the sun? It´s important as well. And then it finally comes. We can collect what has matured. This day has come yesterday in Sonberk. The harvest begun traditionally with Moravian Muscat. “This is the variety that matures first in our winery and always gives us the hardest time. Just every year for a different reason, ” says our winegrower Roman Slouk smiling.

Muscat takes just tiny part of our vineyard. Its grapes we use for producing our first and almost completely dry wine of every year. This year´s grapes have very good content of sugar but that has one bad side. They are very tasty for various types of insects so we have sort berries very carefully to prevent the ones with the poor quality to get into the final mix. That´s why we need this year more workers in the vineyard and they need more time for processing grapes.

What is better news is that level of acidity in grapes – it is higher than last year. Thanks to colder wheather we need no dry ice for for processing and in general creating wine from these grapes should be easier then last year.
