The king is dead, long live the king. Even so, we could describe what we are now experiencing in Sonberk storage rooms. Slowly but surely the popular Riesling 2015 VOC, which among other awards, for example, this year's Wine Salon. "We have last few Deboxes and some reservations, so there is something up for grabs, but really the last few," says our marketing director Dáša Fialová. Those who would like to take some bottles for themselves, advises to go to Valtice, where in the cellars of the local castle in the exhibition of the 101 best Czech and Moravian wines, this Riesling is still for sale.
Wines with a residual sugar of 3.9 and acids of 8.1 grams per liter Olda Drápal created nearly 36,000 bottles and perhaps musician Rudy Linka wrote about it as "his bottle of summer". It was also highly appreciated by the judges at the competitions - he was awarded the gold medal at the Concours des Grands Vins Blancs du Monde in Strasbourg and last year became the best Czech wine of this variety according to the Prague Wine Trophy.
With his 2017 successor, it seems that his life should be similarly successful. Already this year at Decanter, the most famous wine competition, Riesling 2017 VOC got a silver medal and 90 points in the ranking. And at the Prague Wine Trophy, he was awarded the Prague Premium Gold.
The year 2017 has the same amount of acid compared to the older sister, but a little more sugar - 4.6 grams per liter. Maybe our importers from London Ellis Wines believe him so much that they have already pre-ordered it for autumn delivery. "They have been taking Riesling for several years now, seeing a clear handwriting and tasting it, so they are counting on this year as well," Dasa described.
